JUNE 30, 2013 UTAH BOUND

We are leaving New Mexico today and we have really enjoyed our time here.  We initially planned to spend a week or so here but ended up being here for 6 weeks and we only did a portion of the state.  The forest fires prevented us from doing the north east.  We didn’t really know what we here until we started our trip and started doing some research.  It was a true learning experience to discover “The Land of Enchantment” and all it had to offer.  It started with the Carlbad Caverns and then just gave us more and more.  The town of Lincoln, Billy the Kid Scenic Byway,  Smokey the Bear,  The White Sands, The Lava Fields, Ruidoso, The Atomic Bomb, The Pueblo People Ruins, Tent Rocks, Aztec Monument and the Bisti Badlands to name a few of them.

It was a hazy day which made picture taking with any clarity a mite difficult.  Here is what Shiprock would look like on a clear day.

It was shortly after passing by Shiprock that we arrived in Arizona.  Our route is taking us across Hwy 160 prior to turning north on Hwy 163 into Utah.  There was almost an immediate change when we entered Arizona, everything turned red.

We didn’t take a lot of shots (that turned out) as we will be coming back this way to spend some time in the Canyon De Chelly.  Picture taking will be a lot easier in the car as opposed to the motor home.

We entered into Utah and drove the last few miles to our destination.

We are staying at a very picturesque RV park set back into a canyon and surrounded by red walls, very peaceful and serene.  We set up and settled in for the night, tomorrow we hit monument valley.  Our current plan is to get up in time to see the sun rise over Monument Valley.  We’ll see.
